Interested in undertaking postgraduate research in the humanities and social sciences?
Bringing together the expertise and intellectual resources of more than 20 disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, the Cairns Institute at JCU is a uniquely robust and vibrant hub of research, capacity building and public debate. The Cairns Institute’s research addresses critical points of social and environmental transformation in the tropics. We aim to be visionary, multidisciplinary, and driven by principles of social justice and reciprocity. Our location in North Queensland and proximity to neighbouring countries in the Pacific and Southeast Asia places us at the epicentre of economic, environmental and cultural change.
The Institute is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from prospective PhD candidates motivated to make a meaningful difference to the peoples and environments in the tropics. EOIs are welcome on any topic consistent with the mission and profile of the Institute. At the current time, we are particularly motivated to find candidates with interests in one or more of the following:
- Creative Ecologies
- Cultural Transformation
- Indigenous Futures
- Social and Environmental Justice
- Sustainable Development
Information on Higher Degree by Research entry requirements, application procedures and scholarships are available on the JCU Graduate Research School
For successful candidates, the Cairns Institute will provide access to office facilities, computing and other research infrastructure in addition to supervision and a supportive, collegial environment.
