Making Your Research Open Access

JCU Scholarly Communications Manager Jayshree Mamtora recently presented to The Cairns Institute researchers on why there is a strong global push from government, research agencies and funders to make publicly funded research open access.

Jayshree discussed the open access developments that were occurring nationally and internationally as well as the publishing pathways. She explained that publishing open access makes your research more visible and the findings accessible to a wider audience potentially leading to higher citation rates and more impact.

There was a focus on the JCU Read and Publish Agreements and how it differed from 2022 to 2023. The 2023 agreements allow JCU researchers to publish close to 7,000 open access journals without incurring the transactional Article Processing Charge (APC). The sixty minute presentation was kindly recorded.

Should you wish to view Jayshree’s presentation, please contact TCI’s Research Communications Officer Vyvyen Wong with your request via cairnsinstitute@jcu.edu.au.
