Farm Forestry Master Tree Growing

The Tropical North Queensland (TNQ) Drought Hub's Sustainable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Enterprise (SATSIE) program was pleased to support the Farm Forestry Master Tree Growing Workshop, which ran over four weekends in April 2024.

The comprehensive training in tree planting, management for timber, carbon, and multi-use purposes was led by local forester Daryl Killin and designed by Rowan Reid. The eight-day series covered topics from forest establishment to market opportunities.

Participants will gained valuable insights into rural landscape integration, risk management, and timber product enhancement.

"The Farm Forestry Master Tree Growing Workshop is a unique opportunity for landowners to explore the potential of tree planting on their properties," said Daryl Killin. "Whether it's for timber production, carbon sequestration, or enhancing biodiversity, this workshop will provide practical insights and strategies for success."

Around 30 people attended the workshop series, which was also supported by the Australian Agroforestry, Master Tree Grower Australian, Canopy Forestry & Training, Native Conifers-Carbon Sink and Timber Queensland.

On April 27, the conclusion and wrap up session was hosted and Dr Rachel Hay presented on work of the TNQ Drought Hub.
