Climate Adaptation Workshop

Policy and scholarly interest in climate adaptation has grown exponentially over the last decade and will continue to grow as governments, industries, and communities confront escalating climate change impacts. JCU is involved in several major climate adaptation initiatives, including the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program and the Tropical North Queensland Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub. There is potential to increase our contribution, to adapt, and to show leadership in Northern Australia and the global tropics, where climate impacts are particularly acute.

To support JCU’s broader contribution to adaptation, we are seeking to mobilise our many great research and education talents to achieve this societal goal and explore how we might collectively work together.

To kick-start this process, we anticipate holding a Climate Adaptation Workshop in mid-August. The location is to be confirmed. The aim of the workshop is to:

    • Map expertise and interest among JCU staff in climate adaptation and resilience.
    • Share research and build collective awareness of the social and political complexity of climate adaptation.
    • Identify current and emerging adaptation challenges for Northern Australia and the global tropics.
    • Identify opportunities to build a track record and initiate research relevant to these challenges.

To join the workshop, register here by 31 July  and respond based on the following:

    1. Thematic Leadership:
    • If you or your research/education team have the vision and capacity to lead key thematic solutions in climate adaptation, please share:
      • Your vision about how you and your team can contribute significant thematic leadership in this coming challenge.
      • A key major initiative that your team could contribute to achieving this challenge.
      • The key multi-disciplinary researchers and/or educators available to your efforts.
    1. Early Career Researchers/Educators:
    • If you are an early career researcher or educator with a bright project, initiative, idea, or innovation on how you can contribute to the mission, then please let us know:
      • Who you are and how you are connected with JCU.
      • Your bright idea or innovation related to climate adaptation.
    1. General Interest:
    • If you are interested in attending the workshop or being further involved in the mission as it unfolds, please:
      • Confirm your interest in attending the event and explain why you’d like to attend.

We look forward to your involvement in advancing our climate adaptation efforts.
